- Interview of Mr Gerard Gautun, President of French Commitee of Synchronized Skating and Ballet
- 1- What do you think about the new magazine of skating : «International Skating Magazine » ?
Publishing a new ice skating magazine would be an interesting asset if it could deals not only with sport events, but also with every actor of skating in order to throw light on ice skating organization and functioning.
2- Could you say a little word about your disciplines, synchronized ice skating and ballets ?
First of all, we have to point out that synchronized ice skating has joined for the first time the Elite French Championships in addition to traditional disciplines such as ice dancing or figure skating. Synchronized ice skating is a collective expression of skating which requires specific skills. In France, there are only 53 teams whereas USA have a total of 500 teams and Canada, 350. Nowadays, Northen America, Sweeden and Finland have the best teams. Regarding France, our country took the twelfth position in the Senior Championships in 2005.
Synchronized skating play a significant role within the clubs which have an overall approach and share basic skating pratices. There is a real complementarity when clubs are willing to choose this line.
3- What do you wish for 2006 ?
I wish that the new federal organization would keep in mind that is only dedicated to clubs. All skating disciplines must coexist with that open-mindedness, that is to say by finding a solution for everyone at every level. Barriers between disciplines must disappear in order to come up to skaters’s new expectations. Synchronized skating is recognized by ISU as a full discipline, it must be recognized as well by the the federal level with a creation of a specific BE1. We should take the creation of CSN Ballet Ice as an example to develop these pratices in our clubs and secure our skaters’ loyalty.
